Luz Vanegas
Medical Records Assistant
Luz was born and raised in Medellín, Colombia, the “city of eternal spring.” She was raised in a very large and religious family.
In fact, her name, Luz, is in honor of an aunt who is a nun. Her upbringing and most of her school years were spent in a Catholic school, which focused on quality education and instilling values for a better coexistence with others. It pushed her to become the best version of herself.
During the last two years of high school, she studied in an academically competitive, non-religious school, where she met people with very different backgrounds than what she had been exposed to in the Catholic school setting. Luz credits her incredible teachers who motivated and guided her to think differently and question everything. She says it was the unique combination of these two educational perspectives that gave her a broader awareness and understanding of everything.
Luz was awarded a scholarship to study at the University of Medellin and used it to complete a double-major of coursework in criminal investigation and veterinary forensics. She has since worked in sales, customer service and data and quality analytics.
When she’s not working, she likes to exercise, play rugby, or attend cultural events. She particularly enjoys artistic exhibitions such as theater, independent cinema, art festivals, talks, and reading clubs.
